The Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training (CET) is a nationally recognised teaching qualification designed for individuals who are already teaching or training (or have the opportunity to do so) and want to develop their skills and knowledge.

Course Content
The CET covers key elements of teaching practice, including:
- Understanding Roles, Responsibilities and Relationships in Education and Training
- Planning to Meet the Needs of Learners
- Delivering Education and Training
- Assessing Learners in Education and Training
- Using Resources Effectively to Support Learning
- Reflecting on Practice and Continuing Professional Development
Learners will also undertake a minimum of 30 hours of teaching practice during the course to develop real-world teaching experience.
Entry Requirements
- Age: 19 or above.
- A good standard of English, maths, and IT skills (Level 2 or equivalent).
- Access to at least 30 hours of teaching practice during the course (paid or voluntary).
- Completion of Level 3 AET or relevant experience is desirable but not mandatory.
Assessment
Assessment is based on:
- Observation of at least three teaching sessions.
- Written assignments and reflective journals.
- Teaching practice portfolio including lesson plans and learner feedback.
- Evidence of meeting all learning outcomes.
All assessments are internally verified and externally quality assured.
Progression Opportunities
Successful completion of this course can lead to:
- Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training (DET) – the full teaching qualification for FE and adult learning.
- Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills (QTLS) status (with Level 5 DET).
- Career opportunities in FE colleges, private training providers, charities, and workplace learning.
- Specialist assessor or internal quality assurance roles.
