The Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training (DET) is the full teaching qualification for individuals aspiring to teach in Further Education (FE), adult education, sixth form, private training providers, or workplace learning.

Entry Requirements

• Age: 19 or above.
• A Level 3 qualification or equivalent in your subject specialism.
• Good standard of English, maths, and ICT (Level 2 or equivalent).
• Access to a minimum of 100 hours of teaching practice during the course (paid or voluntary).
• Completion of the Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training (CET) is desirable but not mandatory.

Assessment

Assessment methods include:

• Observation of at least eight teaching sessions.
• Written assignments and research projects.
• Teaching practice portfolio, including lesson plans, learner feedback, and reflective journals.
• Evidence of meeting all professional standards for teachers and trainers.

All assessments are internally verified and externally quality assured to awarding body standards.

Progression Opportunities

Graduates of the Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training can:

• Apply for Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills (QTLS) status via the Society for Education and Training (SET).
• Progress to management, curriculum leadership, or specialist roles within education and training.
